Round the Bays

I have two jobs now-- half time for Wildlands Consultants as a herpetologist and general ecologist, and half time for Conservation Volunteers New Zealand (CVNZ), leading groups of volunteers in restoring habitat. The CVNZ crew was running in a race called Round the Bays and had an extra ticket so I signed on with the girls.

It was 6.5k (4 miles) and the most we'd all run together. Lucas ran our support vehicle:)

Just before the run we met up with my new coworkers

And then we all disappeared into the crowd of 14,000

Can you find me in this photo? I'm wearing a white hat...even in a country with no Covid I can't help but think of this as a superspreader event.

They closed down the road that rounds the bays (hence the name of the race...) which is a beautiful run by the ocean. It was fun to have spots along the way where bands played or people sprayed us with the hose to cool us down (the girls loved that).

For Wren it was a breeze but for Quinn a little more of a struggle. We walked for small spurts but she always went back to running and before we knew it we could hear the drums of the finish line. I was so proud of the girls for finishing and running almost the whole way.
