Moving to the southern hemisphere has meant that my summer birthday is now in winter. Even after four years I can't get used to not camping on the weekend of the 4th. The day was rainy and cold so aside from some planting down at the stream, was an indoor kind of day. Lucas finished his grading early so we'd have the day together, which was awesome. We made tortillas together and he created my birthday cake cinnamon rolls.
The girls had created a secret song/dance/play for me that they eagerly anticipated performing once I had picked them up from school. It starts with a pretty grim Covid hospital scene but then breaks into a dance celebrating family. Funny how their little minds incorporate and blend the news of the day...
This birthday I decided to just request things out of the ordinary. No one can refuse me on my birthday:) I told the girls they would be cooking me dinner. What can you cook? I asked. "Candy and cookies", said Wren with a smile. If that's true, it's something I should probably remedy anyway! So I taught them how to make me scrambled eggs with shredded cheese and carrots in a tortilla.
After cinnamon roll cake we put the girls to bed and I went out for a drink with some friends. I feel very lucky that places are open and covid free for outings like these.
