Makara Beach

We've had a strange spate of perfectly blue, sunny, dry, global-climate-change-like days. Very odd for late May when the rain is usually blowing sideways. On a sunny weekend day we decided to head out to Makara Beach, on the west, more remote side of Wellington. We'd never been there and always heard good things.

I think it must always be windy out there. This day the wind was whipping in from the north and we had to sit in the car to have our tuna sandwiches or they would get blown away. After lunch we took the beach track around the coast south.

The girls are instantly smitten with a place if there are tide pools to investigate and sea anemones to touch.

The hike took a vertical turn but the girls were literally up for it.

There is only one facility in town, a cafe. We stopping in for some fish and chips and ice cream before heading back to town.
