Chooks
We got chickens (or as they call them here, chooks)! We've been talking about getting chickens for a few months-- gathering for tea with our neighbors/landlords to discuss the possibility of sharing chicken duties. Finally Jess and Adam took the plunge and bought a coop that could be assembled.

The next weekend Jess and Adam went up north and on the way back, bought 4 six-week old chooks! They all grew up together so get along well.
Each of the kids got to name their own. The trick is, any of them may be a rooster. There's no way to tell at this age...
Wren's chicken, Green Eggs and Ham. This breed will apparently lay green eggs one day...
Quinn's chicken, Puzzle

The kids just want to cuddle them. But they resist. Wren so patiently sat in the chicken coop with her outstretched hand full of grain, for what seemed like hours, until they ate out of her hand. Quinn is generally scared of animals but by night two could bravely catch her own chicken.
They are loved by the kids and are a welcome addition to our grassy hideaway.
