Baring Head

While the kids had their last week of school I worked at a lizard project out at Baring Head, on the other side of Wellington Harbor. It is a long-term monitoring project that was last surveyed 5 years ago. Luckily I was able to borrow a car so I could still get back home to put the girls to bed and wake up with them in the morning.

It's a stunner of a view, and some insanely steep hiking. I was exhausted by the end of each day.

View back to the other side of the harbor. It was funny that my view was back to Owhiro Bay.

There was a sheep roundup as we were working. The dogs herded scores of sheep up over the mountain to pastures. The study is looking at sheep grazing and taking areas out of pasture.

Can you find the gecko and the skink in this bucket? Sponge to keep things moist, pear to lure them in.

A particularly pretty Raukawa gecko
