Stranding
When we were at Farewell Spit the cafe had photos up of whale strandings. They were captivating in their tragedy.

In addition to the beauty and the dunes, whale strandings are a part of this place. But just this week a huge stranding occurred there with 650 whales. A massive volunteer effort to get them back out to sea managed to save fewer than half. I just hope those that survived don't come back up on shore...
