Excursion
When Quinn turned four she joined the Wednesday morning excursion group of other four year olds at playcentre. We have been on some great trips around Wellington.
To the gym

To my favorite forest in Wellington, Otari Wilton Bush, filled with tree ferns and giant wood pigeons. There is no agenda, few rules and the kids just explore the creek and the woods.
Quinn and Alice surveying the scene...

Headed up the stream

Checking out the huge eel that lives under the bridge

We had to be very patient, but at one point the meter-long eel came out and swam around

Of course no outing would be complete without a barefoot sausage sizzle

Down to the beach to explore the tide pools

Just a short walk from the playcentre is a small forest reserve. We went a few weeks in a row, climbing up the steep slopes to survey the scene.

hammocking in the trees

Kari (Iluka's mom) making damper (yeasted quick bread) on a camping stove for the kids.

To be four is a beautiful thing...
