Man with a bat
Wren's after school swim class has 5 other boys plus Wren. She stands out as the gentle soul among the crazy splashing (orange swim cap below).
One of the Dads spends the waiting time pacing the pool area, wielding a cricket bat. Sometimes he walks by and swings menacingly
and sometimes just sits and looks angry.
This is the way he ended the last class
I tried to imagine the equivalent in the US: a Dad pacing and swinging a baseball bat. But this being NZ, no one says a word about it and just lets him do his thing. And this being NZ I'm sure he means no harm. This being NZ he is just really into cricket.
