I'm used to camping every year for my birthday--taking advantage of the long holiday weekend with friends. I wasn't sure how a winter birthday would feel. Luckily the storms had just cleared the day before and the day was warmish and sunny.

We had breakfast with Neil, Charlotte and their two girls at a cafe right on the ocean. The camel rides are legendary.

After breakfast Quinn's friend Sisi had a birthday party at a roller rink. The older sisters got to come and skate too. Wren with friends Ruby and Summer.

Lucas gave me an old school sewing machine for my birthday. I had left my old one behind and am happy to be reunited with a similar workhorse here. My first project: a muscle shirt for Sleepy Doggy.

The girls had a disco that afternoon and again dressed head to toe in sequins. Thanks to Uncle Nick for keeping them looking so fabulous.

That evening after the girls were in bed Lucas and I got a sitter and went out and explored downtown. Despite the mixed-up season I felt pretty lucky I could go to brunch, roller skate, dance and hit the town all in one day. Made for a very memorable birthday.
