School break
We had a fun, adventurous time in Oakura so it was nice to have a second week just to chill at home. It was the week of small excursions. Quinn's ear infection resolved by the end of the second week but she was still not feeling like her Mighty self. Monday was a holiday, Anzac Day, to honor New Zealand's soldiers. We spent it at the botanical garden, enjoying a last day with Lucas.
After the holiday, we checked out the rock gym with Wren's friend Summer and her mom. The night before I had planned my left side drive into downtown, with it's maze of one-way streets and high traffic. Was nerve wracking but successful.
There is a lot less safety checks and regulation here. So many things for kids make Lucas and I think "this would never occur in the states". It's more of an at-your-own-risk attitude towards child rearing. So it wasn't a surprise that at the rock gym novice parents get a short 2 minute lesson on how to work the ropes and then we were the ones belaying the girls.
Wren and Summer climbed for almost an hour straight and Wren made her way all the way to the top of the wall. Quinn entertained herself by unpacking my backpack and putting on her tap shoes that were in there.

Lunch on the dock by the climbing gym.

The girls checking out Starfish clinging to the pilings. A beautiful day to be near the water.

We spent a lot of time this week at Shorland park, down the hill in Island Bay and right on the ocean. It's rumored to have one of the best slides in town.
At the park with Cohen and his sister Sloan. Quinn was hot so off went the pants.

On another day at the park, Georgia, Wren and Quinn practicing their 3 way luge. Georgia, and her sister Harriet live a few houses down the hill from us and their mom works for Lucas. It's a small town...

It's been a lovely fall break. I like this series of two week breaks they do after each term so it's never too long before the next one.
