Olympics
This year for family vacation we decided to make the trek to Olympic National Park. So far and yet so close.
We spent the first three days on Lake Quinault at Willaby Campground. Although our site abutted a steep cliff, it was otherwise a perfect spot. Our only camp neighbors were a family with two boys of similar age to Wren and Quinn, good camp buddies. We went swimming every day in the lake and hiked among the giant trees.

I can't ask for a better birthday than swimming in a mountain lake and campfire cooking.

ok, maybe with some cupcakes

and these crazies

The girls never tired of camping and were sad to go after 3 days. We pushed further north to a cabin on the Bogachiel River near Forks, WA. Amazingly, the river provided even better swimming. We could walk up the shallow river to deeper water and float back down. There were just four cabins on our side of the river and national forest on the other side.

The cabin was small but had an all-important shower and fridge, after a few days without.

Our last afternoon an eerie pink haze covered over the sky as the forest fire smoke from Canada made its way south.

Somehow we always manage to find a swing where we stay. This time there were two.

4.5 hour trip home with a little light reading to kill the time

We bit off such a small chunk of the Olympics there is so much more to see on the next visit
